God Wants Us to Talk with Him!

AN INVITATION...

Talk about these questions:
  • Tell me about a time you were invited to something fun, like a birthday party or other special event?
  • How did you know you were invited to attend?
  • How did you feel about the invitation?
Just like you were invited to those special events, God has invited us to spend time with him and talk with him. This is called prayer!

Do not worry about anything. But pray and ask God for everything you need. And when you pray, always give thanks. (Philippians 4:6 ICB)
We can talk to God no matter what day it is, or what time it is. And God is listening to you no matter where you are or what you are doing!  We can talk to God ANY DAY at ANY TIME from ANY PLACE.

Let's read this poem out loud to remind us that God loves to hear our prayers!
God is always ready to hear (cup your hands to your ears)
Words we speak, so do not fear (place your hand over your heart)
He will listen to every prayer (fold your hands in prayer)
Any time and anywhere (spread your arm out wide to indicate a large area)
God pays attention to every word (cup your hands to your ears again)
Nothing we say will go unheard (shake your head from side to side)
So talk to God both night and day (cup your hands around your mouth)
Because close beside you he will stay (wrap your arms around yourself as if in a hug)

PRACTICE AT HOME

Today we learned that God wants us to talk to him about everything, any where, any time.
To practice this truth this week, say a prayer in a new place,
about a new topic, or at a new time of day.
  • For example, when you are driving to school say thank you to God for something you see out the window.
  • Or when you are at the store, pray for someone in your family.
  • Or after school, thank God for something you don't normally think about, like the toilet or a lamp.

MAKE IT AT HOME: Prayer Journal

As we learn about prayer, we can track what we're praying, and see what God does in our lives and in the lives of others through these prayers. Here is how to create your journal:
  1. Choose your paper or notebook - Any sheet of paper can become a prayer journal. You can use a notebook, a single sheet of paper, or staple a few papers together.
  2. Structure your pages - write down the date, your prayer request, and leave a blank space to write down God's answer later on.  You can write down as many prayers as you want.
  3. Decorate your journal in any way you want to.
  4. Then remember to stick it in a safe place.
  5. You can also send your prayer requests to christys@laceypres.org so we can pray with you.  We are praying for you!
Dear God,  Thank you for loving us and for listening to our prayers. We're glad that you want us to talk to you. Help us to talk to you every day,no matter where we are or what is going on in our lives.  In Jesus' Name, AMEN
