God's Promise to Abraham
Children's Sunday School | At-home Resources
October 17: Read or watch the story Son of Laughter | Jesus Storybook Bible | page 56
Talk about these questions together:
- What promise did God make to Abraham and Sarah?
- What was impossible about this promise, something only God could do?
- How did Abraham and Sarah respond? Did they believe God?
- What did you learn about Jesus in this story?
Let's go deeper!
Read the story in the Bible: Genesis 12:1-3, 15:1-6, 17:1-8, 17:15-21, 18:10-14, 21:1-7
God always keeps his promises!
Can you see how this is theme is repeated in so many of the stories we have learned?
Look back on our past lessons and think about these questions:
Can you see how this is theme is repeated in so many of the stories we have learned?
Look back on our past lessons and think about these questions:
- What promise did God make to Adam and Eve? How did God keep this promise?
- What promise did God make to Noah before the flood? How did God keep that promise?
- What promise did God make to Noah and the entire earth after the flood? What sign did God give the whole world that he would keep his promises?
All of these promises God has made, they all point to his first promise to Adam and Eve: "I will come and rescue you." In this story, God is showing us another part of his plan. He is going to rescue the whole world through this one family. God is also showing us that he is good and kind, and that nothing is too wonderful or to hard for him to do.
Think about the last time you were at the beach. Did you play in the sand? Imagine you are at the beach. Imagine you pick up a handful of sand, then let the dry sand fall through your fingers. Can you guess how many grains of sand are on that beach?
Or what about the stars on a dark night? Can you count them?
God loves to do things in a HUGE way! He promised Abraham that he would not only have a son, but that eventually his family would be so vast that they couldn't even all be counted! God loves to keep his promises in a big, generous way. We can trust God to be faithful to us and to always keep his promises.

Praying this story...
Thank you God for always keeping your promises. Thank you for your promise to Abraham and that through Abraham's family, Jesus came as my Rescuer! Teach me that I can always trust you. In Jesus Name, AMEN
