February 14: Read or watch the story Ten Ways to be Perfect | Jesus Storybook Bible | page 100

"I want you to live in a way that shows everyone else what I am like!"

Let's play a game:
Read each item on the list below. Stand up if you ever forget those things; stay seated if you never forget them.
  • Stand up if you ever forget to brush your teeth.
  • Stand up if you ever forget other people's name.
  • Stand up if you forget your own name. (I hope you are sitting!)
  • Stand up if you ever forget what you learned in school last week.
  • Stand up if you ever forget how much God loves you or what God is like. (I'm standing up on this one for sure).

Sometimes we all forget how great God is and we forget all the amazing things he has done for us.

In today’s story, God’s people also forget what God is like and how much God loves them.

Talk about these questions:
  • What did the people do when they were hungry or thirsty?
  • What did God do to take care of them?
  • Why did God give the Israelites the ten commandments?
  • What do you learn about Jesus from this story?

Download the handout and coloring pages.

Check out this fun song "The Perfect 10" from the Angels Aware musical
that we performed at our church several years ago.
It is a great way to learn the ten commandments.

The ten commandments were not about keeping rules so God would love them or rescue them. God knew they could not keep all the rules all the time. And he wanted them to know it, too. He wanted them to know that they need a rescuer and that God was faithful to save them again and again. One day the Great Rescuer was coming, someone who could keep all the rules, someone who would save them for all time.

Praying this story...
Thank you, God, that you are the Great Rescuer. Thank you for parting the sea so your people could walk through on dry land.  Help me to always trust you, and to remember your great power and infinite love!  In Jesus' Name. AMEN
